Try this - I dare you!
Four songs you can never sing consecutively:
The Dallas theme song
The Indiana Jones theme song
The Mission Impossible theme song
The Superman theme song.
Don't believe me?
Try it!
Otherwise all is well. Crawling baby now stands up along objects such as the hoover, her father's legs and the sofa cushions. The natural progression of things I suppose.
Got a killer idea for a film, might really need to write this one. I mean, the world will truly benefit.
And you know you're ready to make a difference in the world when you can hum the aforementioned songs without taking a break in between to think. That means true art runs in your veins.
Har.

Absent...
My absense of late can be explained by a)the lack of a proper internet connection and b) the lack of feeling like sharing anything at all.
But lo, we have arrived in the land of beer and red hot dogs. The land of Tivoli and the Little Mermaid. And I've been indoors most of the time.
Granted, I've seen Ikea (but then again, who hasn't) and gone down town a couple of times, had one brief outing in the neighbourhood park and had one long walk between districts with the little one. Quite a lot you might say, but during 10 days it's not so much.
The flat is great, now we are just eagerly waiting to have the resources to furnish it properly. But I can tell you, that not having either a coffee table or dining table really makes you have to be creative when it comes to eating supper in front of the telly. Many different positions have been fabricated for this affair, but the classic 'eating-with-plate-on-lap' maneuver seems to be the winner. Terribly exciting. Missing photographic evidence, though.
The little one started crawling, so the peace is out. She also managed to get a cold, bless her, so she's been indoors most of the time. When I think she's getting better I've ventured on a small outing with her, but she's never better... She's getting pretty irritated, having to be cooped up in the flat with mum dearest all the live long day, but hopefully she'll get better soon.
In the meantime, I'm fashioning new ways to make porridge exciting and have found that maple syrup for me, and babymilk, cinnamon and apples for her seem to do the trick.
Oh, I did manage to go see a James Morrison concert in Tivoli the other day. I'm not really a fan, since this is not my type of music, but it was fun. I went with my friend and we were easily the oldest ones in about a 10 metre radius ... or well, I was at any rate, she's a little younger than me ;) But the kid rocked on stage, good stage performers are rather rare to happen upon in this age of lip syncing, so that was a pleasant surprise.
Now I'm contemplating whether to buy a ticket to Roskilde festival for the full 5-day experience or just the Sunday concert. I'm broke at the moment and tickets rate at about 1700 DKK which is plenty, so I think I'll just go on the Sunday. I'll miss Nine Inch Nails on the Friday then, which will SUCK, but to be honest I just can't imagine spending all that money for a festival ticket ... We'll see, though.
Well, my magical porridge-making skills are needed, child starting to complain.

The World is So Big
OK, I know that seems like an obvious statement right there, but have you acctually thought about it? I mean, really thought about it?
In terms of geography, no one's surprised. It's huge. Bigger than my backyard (obviously). But in terms of people, how you live your life, what you get to see - it's bewildering.
My world is relatively small. I know a handfull of people, have heard of some more people, seen a bit of said world and yet, every time I notice something stupid, like someone getting a thousand followers a minute on Twitter, it hits me smack in the face that the world is so much bigger than we realize.
I live in a city of what, 120 thousand people. It's a relatively small number, considering. But the chances of seeing the same face twice in a crowd are slim to none. Seriously. There are people I haven't seen since I graduated from elementary school 9 years ago. And yet, we are talking of a rather monotonous city. There's one centre of town, 2 malls and a handfull of big main roads. Everyone in the city goes to these places on a regular basis. And yet. And yet. Which leads me to believe that this huge world is just a series of coincedences, chance, luck, bad luck and what have you.
In this big place, the World, you have to realize that you're not the only one calling the shots in your own life. Everything depends on everyone else, and in a place of 6 billion (and counting) that counts for a lot.
Let's say that I decide, on a whim, to go out for a drive today. I get in my car, buckle my seatbelt, and all of a sudden I remember I forgot my phone in the flat. I rush out of the car and go up to get the phone. Meanwhile, a red car drives by, a little too fast.
I get in the car again and start driving. On my way, I come across a car accident. The red car smashed head on into an unsuspecting driver, causing a fatal accident. That could have been me.
The resulting accident, the reason people are now dead, is a factor of many things. Firstly, I didn't drive off when I first started my car - that could have been me in that accident. If I'd left any sooner, it probably would have. Secondly, the driver of the red car made the choice of going driving, and made the choice of driving too fast. Thirdly, the driver of the third car perhaps forgot to check his mirrors, or was preoccupied, or doing nothing at all, when the red car lost control. And the third car might even have been changing lanes as a direct result of what someone else decided. Which in turn happend because yet another person decided yet another thing. What a chain reaction. A chain that goes on all over the world. Step on a butterfly today...
Everything depends on everyone else. It's a bloody miracle we all manage to survive throughout the day, when nothing that happens to us is exactly and only up to ourselves.
It's like watching long threads tangling in the wind. Some will get intertwined, some will get frayed and some will break free. Every so often someone comes along and roughs up the threads, sending catastrophe or exultation to each individual.
So big.
What have you decided to do to day?
Think about the consequences - in a wider context than you're used to. You might get carried away.

Ég lærði nýtt orð í dag.
Friluftsbad.
'Nuff said.
